Three ADF Members Convicted for Planned Attack at Ex-IGP Lokech’s Burial

The High Court of Uganda’s International Crimes Division, has convicted Katumba Rashid, alias Abdu, along with two others, for their involvement in terrorist activities linked to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a designated terrorist group.

Abdu was found guilty of terrorism and unlawful possession of explosives. Justice Susan Okallany, sentenced him to 10 years in prison for each charge.

His accomplices, Luyenjje Najjimu and Kiyemba Arafat Jamil, were convicted of belonging to the ADF and each received a 5-year prison sentence. The convictions followed a Plea Bargain arrangement, where all three accused opted to plead guilty.

The charges stem from an incident in August 2021, when security forces in Pader District intercepted Katumba Rashid carrying explosives intended for a public attack. The swift action of the security forces prevented a potentially devastating attack.

The prosecution was led by Thomas Jatiko, Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions, and  Marion Ben-bella, Senior State Attorney in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

The development was the handy work of the ODPP and other criminal justice stakeholders, including the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI).
