Shock and anger have gripped residents of Nalyagonja village in Kalangaalo Sub-county, Mityana District, after a teacher allegedly tied up and brutally beat a Primary Seven pupil over accusations of stealing Shs5,000 and a mathematical set.

The suspect, Bukenya Fredrick, 28, a teacher at Nalyagonja Bright Way Junior School, was arrested following the disturbing incident.

According to Wamala Regional Police Spokesperson SSP Lameck Kigozi, the teacher reportedly ordered the girl to return the items she was accused of stealing before tying her up and severely beating her, leaving her with injuries.

A concerned relative later reported the matter to Mityana Central Police Station, prompting police to intervene.

The victim was taken for medical examination, while her parents were advised to seek further treatment to help her recover from the injuries.

Police say Bukenya is currently in custody and will soon be taken to court once investigations are completed.

The incident has sparked concern among parents and community members over the growing cases of extreme corporal punishment in schools.
