Suspended Students, Teachers Arrested Over Rakai School Fire
The Police have arrested six people including three senior four students in relation to the fire that burnt a dormitory at St Bernard’s Mannya Secondary school in Kifamba Sub County, Rakai district.
The fire left nine students dead.
The arrested are; Stephen Kankiroho, Dickson Kisuule and Enoch Mugulusi, all senior four students. The others are teachers; Achilles Mugerwa and Johnson Mugisha and Adolf Kaggwa, the school’s warden.
Sources say the arrested students were serving a suspension from school on grounds of indiscipline. They are suspected to have participated or masterminded the arson, while the others according to police are going to help in investigations.
Meanwhile the students at St Bernard’s Mannya Secondary school in Kifamba Sub County, Rakai district have been sent home following the fire scare.
The decision to close the school was made during an emergency meeting held between security teams and the school administration. The meeting was also attended by Security Minister Gen Elly Tumwine and Director General of Internal Security Organisation Col Kaka Bagyenda.
Only students in senior six and four who are writing their final examinations were allowed to stay at school.
