Uganda has warned it’s southern neighbor Rwanda to stop provocative criminal acts.
The warning is contained in a diplomatic protest note against Rwanda over the abduction of a UPDF soldier by Rwandan forces at Cyanika border point.
Pt Baluku Muhuba was abducted by Rwandan soldiers on Saturday about 100 meters inside Ugandan territory.
Although Pt Muhuba was later released by the Rwandan Defence Forces on Sunday evening with all his equipment, the government of Uganda through the ministry of internal affairs has expressed concern over the actions of the Rwandan soldiers.
“The Government of Uganda protests in the strongest terms the continued violation of its territorial integrity by Rwandan soldiers and the criminal act by the Rwandan soldiers on Ugandan territory,” Uganda’s foreign affairs ministry said in the diplomatic protest note seen by the Kampala Post.
Uganda warned Rwanda against such acts in the future.
“The Government of Rwanda is strongly urged to avoid recurrence of such provocative incidents in future,” reads part of the message in the protest note.
About the kidnap
Pt Muhuba, a UPDF soldier attached to the 35th Battalion based in Kisoro was abducted by Rwandan Defense Forces (RDF) at Cyanika Border on Saturday evening.
The soldier was part of the Ugandan soldiers on routine patrol on Uganda’s side around the Cyanika border point with Rwanda.
The UPDF soldier had been abducted after he stayed behind to ease himself before he fell in an ambush laid by Rwandan soldiers who had crossed to the Ugandan side.
