Ssegirinya trial on Inciting Violence Postponed To March 24
The Buganda Road Court has again adjourned a case involving Kawempe North Member of Parliament Muhammad Ssegirinya of inciting violence.
Ssegirinya was expected to appear in court on Friday for trial of the matter but his co-lawyer Geoffrey Turyamusima failed to show up,hence the adjournment.
Prosecution led by Ivan Kyaze, the State Attorney was ready to present two star witnesses on the stand, however, Ssegirinya’s other counsel Medard Ssegona told the court that Turyamusima was unable to present himself in court following the death of his boss Anthony Wameli of Wameli and Company advocates.
Wameli died on Wednesday in the United States of America where he succumbed to a long battle with stage four cancer.
Ssegona stated to the court that Turyamusima was handed the disclosure which details the evidence and exhibits the state intends to adduce in court. He therefore pleaded with the court to allow them more time to study the file.
Grade One Magistrate Siena Owomugisha adjourned the case to March 24, 2023.
The case undergoing trial stems from a post on Ssegirinya’s Facebook page named “Ssegirinya Muhammad Fans Page ”, inciting the public to participate in violence against a section or group of people.
Ssegirinya posted saying; “I am warning those who are trying to assassinate Hon Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu that what will happen will be forty times worse than the 1994 Rwandan Genocide”.
Ivan Kyaze, the State Attorney told the court that they were ready to proceed with the case.
