The Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has officially opened the 5th African Organisation of Public Accounts Committees (AFROPAC) Assembly, which is being held under the theme: “Illicit Financial Flows and Fostering Public Financial Resilience.”
In her address, she urged AFROPAC members to collaborate in developing effective strategies to combat illicit financial flows, emphasizing their damaging impact on national economies.
She pointed out that these financial crimes manifest in various forms across member countries, including corruption, smuggling, tax evasion, human trafficking, drug trade, and aggressive transfer pricing.
The Speaker highlighted that illicit financial flows severely undermine revenue collection, which is essential for funding national development initiatives and ensuring quality service delivery to citizens.
She stressed that forums like AFROPAC must take a proactive role in addressing these challenges to safeguard public resources and strengthen financial resilience.
