Somalia’s Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on State Visit to Uganda

In a bid to bolster bilateral relations and address regional security concerns, President Yoweri Museveni welcomed Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to State House Entebbe. The one-day official visit was marked by fruitful discussions on issues of mutual interest, including the security situation in Somalia and the Horn of Africa.
During their meeting, the two heads of state reviewed the progress made since President Mohamud’s last official visit to Uganda on October 19th, 2024. They exchanged views on regional and international issues, emphasizing the need to maintain peace, security, and stability in the Horn of Africa and the entire continent.
President Museveni commended President Mohamud, his government, and the people of Somalia for their commitment, resilience, and efforts in stabilizing Somalia. He also paid tribute to the Troop and Police Contributing Countries (T/PCCs) to the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and Somali Security Forces for their sacrifices in fighting against Al-Shabaab since 2007.
On his part, President Mohamud expressed his gratitude to President Museveni, his government, and the people of Uganda for their sacrifice and commitment to peace and security in Somalia since 2007. He appreciated the warm hospitality accorded to him during the visit and acknowledged Uganda’s role in promoting regional stability.
The meeting was attended by several high-ranking officials, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Gen. Jeje Odongo, Minister of State for Veteran Affairs Hon. Oleru Huda Abason and Deputy Chief of Defence Forces Lt. Gen. Sam Okiding among others.
This visit underscores the strong bilateral relations between Uganda and Somalia, as well as their shared commitment to regional peace and security. As the Horn of Africa continues to face security challenges, the cooperation between these two nations is crucial in promoting stability and development in the region.
