Soldier Kills Wife, Commits Suicide by Shooting Himself in the Mouth

The police in Katwe are currently investigating a tragic incident in which a bodyguard to a minister shot and killed his wife before taking his own life.

The military police officer identified as Corporal Andebo Collins, first opened fire on his ex- wife Atulinda Peroni on Tuesday morning at 07:00 am at Lutaka, Makindye Division, before turning the same gun on himself.

According to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Corporal Andebo, who was attached to Makindye Military Police, was armed with an AK-47 rifle and dressed in civilian attire when he confronted Atulinda as she was boarding a motorcycle.

He shot Atulinda in the arm, causing her to bleed profusely. Despite efforts to save them, Atulinda succumbed to her injuries at Nsambya Hospital, while Andebo was pronounced dead upon arrival at Mulago Hospital’s casualty ward. They were rushed to the hospital by military police officers who swiftly arrived at the scene.

Defence Deputy Spokesperson Col Deo Akiiiki confirmed the incident and says the deceased soldier who was deployed to guard Hon Kibuule, prematurely left his duty station and proceeded to the crime spot where he shot the wife on both arms before shooting himself in the mouth.

According to police, at the time of the incident, Andebo and Atulinda were separated due to domestic conflicts and had decided to live apart from their residence in Lutaka Zone, Makindye 1, Makindye Division.

Owoyesigyire says the couple had a history of a violent relationship dating back to when they first met over five years ago.

Atulinda’s body has been taken to City Mortuary Mulago for a postmortem examination, and statements have been recorded from eyewitnesses as investigations continue to determine the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
