Singer Ykee Benda Hints on Joining Politics in 2026 Polls
Ykee Benda, has neither confirmed nor denied having political ambitions ahead of the 2026 general elections.
In an interview with local TV station the “Tuli Bito” singer left fans guessing about his political plans when asked if he was considering running for a Member of Parliament position.
It is alleged that Benda is planning to contest for the Kira Municipality seat, currently held by Hon. Ssemujju Nganda.
“Who told you I’m contesting for Member of Parliament?” Ykee Benda responded before adding, “I don’t know if I will join Parliament but let us leave it at that. I was just born in Kira and I’m not a leader there. I’m just a leader in many other things but not politics.”
Benda also remarked that leaders who fail to deliver services for their constituents will be voted out.
Recently, Benda’s visit to Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, sparked debate. Some social media platforms speculated that the singer was lobbying for political support.
However, Benda clarified that he leads a school, and Parliament, through the Speaker, made a donation via its Corporate Social Responsibility program.
The Speaker pledged to contribute to the construction of a boy’s dormitory and committed Shs20 million.
Several other singers, including Catherine Kusasira, Viboyo Oweyo, and King Saha, are also reportedly planning to run for elective positions.
