Officials from the State House Investors Protection Unit (SHIPU) and the Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UNCCI) convened today to explore partnership opportunities aimed at fostering investment in Uganda.

During a meeting held at the State House Investors Protection Unit Offices in Kampala, the unit’s head, Col. Edith Nakalema, commended the leadership of UNCCI for their efforts in promoting and safeguarding the interests of Uganda’s business community.

“We extend our gratitude for your role in advancing businesses in Uganda. The Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry has demonstrated resilience and contributed significantly to the nation’s development,” she expressed.

Col. Nakalema highlighted the pivotal role played by businesspeople within the chamber in driving investments and enhancing the value of Ugandan products, among other benefits.

She further explained that SHIPU, initiated by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, aims to collaboratively coordinate stakeholders to ensure a secure investment landscape, welcoming any collaboration to advance its objectives.

“We must join forces to enhance the business environment in Uganda. Your expertise in business management is invaluable, and we rely on your guidance,” emphasized Col. Nakalema.

In return, Col. Nakalema expressed appreciation for UNCCI’s initiative in exploring potential areas of collaboration, underscoring the chamber’s significance as an engine of economic growth.

Additionally, she provided insights to chamber members on leveraging the Uganda Electronic Investors Protection Portal, an initiative launched by President Museveni to streamline investment processes and safeguard investments in the country.

“The President’s vision to leverage technology for a better investment environment is evident in this portal. It serves as a one-of-a-kind platform in Africa, connecting various government agencies directly monitored by the President,” she explained.

Col. Nakalema outlined the four main functions of the portal, including investor guidance, reporting mechanisms, enforcement support, and feedback reception.

Acknowledging the importance of domestic investors’ concerns, she disclosed that the portal has successfully handled 180 complaints to date, emphasizing its efficiency in addressing investor grievances.

President of the Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Olive Kigongo, reiterated the chamber’s commitment to promoting and protecting the interests of the business community, expressing eagerness to collaborate with SHIPU to enhance Uganda’s investment sector.

“We serve as a conduit for various business communities locally, regionally, and internationally. With 150 regional offices, we facilitate inquiries and complaints about business opportunities on a daily basis,” Kigongo remarked.
