The NRM Secretary General, Richard Todwong has commended the leadership of the Uganda Prisons Service for contributing to the economic welfare and prosperity of the county through agriculture and manufacturing.
Todwong praised the prisons service today at Luzira Prison Training School where he delivered a keynote address to senior officers who are undertaking an intermediate course.
”The Prison Service is well organized and I thank you especially for the commercial part of you. You are doing a great job ensuring the country’s food security through farming and building the economy through manufacturing like furniture,” Todwong said.
Todwong said “Peace is one of the cornerstones in the socio-economic development. Other than peace, you have been very active in producing cereals, food and even producing seeds that we are giving to our people through the prison’s farms.”
On the question of security officers benefiting from the Parish Development Model, Todwong said he would reach out to President Museveni for redress.
”Our security personnel like the UPDF, police and prisons earn little salaries that may not be enough to care for their families. I want to believe that with the addition of PDM money for their families through barracks arrangement, It will greatly improve their welfare,” the NRM supremo said.
He urged officers to continue to maintain discipline and be exemplary during their service in a quest to promote law and order in society.
“The nation is proud of you as its officers. So perform to the expectations of Ugandans. Learn to manage your emotions even when you are provoked,” Todwong said.
He commended President Museveni and the NRM government for professionalizing the security organs saying that unlike in previous regimes where recruitments were based on one’s tribe, the current recruitment arrangements are given on merit without any favouritism.
