Seven Pupils Succumb to Devastating Masaka School Fire

A devastating fire that engulfed the dormitory at Kasaana Junior Primary School in Masaka City has claimed the lives of seven pupils so far. This is out of 12 pupils who were affected by the fire outbreak.

The fire took place in the dormitory of the school located in Nyendo-Mukungwe division, Masaka City, which accommodated 15 children from top and primary one classes. Police have since attributed the fire to a short circuit.

The Southern regional deputy police commander, Jamaada Wandera, reported that two additional victims passed away at Kiruddu Hospital, where they had been transferred.

Wandera says technical experts from the police headquarters were examining the fire scene to compile a comprehensive report.

He also urged school authorities to adhere to Ministry of Education guidelines, including not installing bars on windows and ensuring sufficient dormitory space to prevent similar incidents.

Among the victims include ; Arnold Tumwesigye, Martin Muganga, Hillary Walugembe, Jordan Ssendagire, and Austine Kisomosi.
