Seven Arrested for Torturing Woman Over Alleged Theft of Ex-Husband’s Pig

Police in Mityana are currently holding seven suspects in connection with aggravated torture of a 29 year old woman in Namuzikiza village, Watuba parish, Kikandwa sub-county, Mityana district.

The victim, identified as Muhirwe Kolodina, bar attendant and resident of the same locality, was battered by the suspects on April 28, 2024, at 09:30 am.

Koldina was captured in a viral video on social media platforms sparking widespread outrage and condemnation. In the video clip, Koldina is seen by her captor’s being burned with  jerrycan at the residence of the area LCI. She is accused of stealing a pig.

The woman dressed in a blue blouse and black skirt/short, is curved in an akward position, her hands and legs tied, and burnt with hot melting droplets from a plastic jerrycan.

Racheal Kawala, the Wamala Regional Police spokesperson says investigations reveal that Kolodina, formerly married to James Lukiiko for six years, had separated from her husband in January 2024 due to irreconcilable differences. Following the split, Kolodina was left to tend to her gardens and banana plantation, where she typically sourced her food.

On the fateful day of April 28th, at approximately 08:00 am, Kolodina ventured to gather food from the garden at the kibanja of her ex-husband, James Lukiiko. It’s reported that Lukiiko summoned his son, Lwabye Brian, who, in turn, alerted Kalanzi James, the area defense officer of Namuzikiza village. Upon their arrival at the scene, James and Namusoke Betty allegedly bound Kolodina’s hands and legs, accusing her of stealing a pig.

She was tortured at the residence of the area Chairperson, Kiwanuka Steven, drawing a crowd of onlookers. Shockingly, witnesses claim that people in the crowd ignited a jerrycan, using it to set fire to Kolodina while demanding information regarding the missing pig.

Following the torturous ordeal, Kolodina was callously abandoned in a nearby bush. However, her plight did not go unnoticed, as a compassionate boda boda cyclist came to her rescue and promptly transported her to the local police station.

Kawala explains that Kolodina reported the matter under CRB 155/2024. Her statement was recorded, and she was taken to Namayumba Health Center IV for urgent medical attention.

According to Kawala, the suspects implicated in the barbaric act, including Kiwanuka George, Lukiiko James, Kezimbira George, Lwabye Brian, and Namusoke Betty, among others, have been arrested and are presently in custody at Mityana Police Station as investigations into the matter progress.
