Security Guard Steals Millions from Forex Bureau
Police in Kabalagala, Kampala, are on the lookout for a security guard suspected of stealing a substantial amount of money, both in Ugandan shillings and foreign currencies, from a forex bureau.
The suspect, identified as Sharif Abudallah, attached to Dynamic Security Ltd was assigned to guard Isetial Forex Bureau located at ML Plaza, Mutesasira zone, Kansanga Parish in Makindye division. However, Abudallah allegedly turned against his employers and carried out a robbery before going into hiding.
According to reports, on the evening of March 16th, Abudallah took advantage of faulty CCTV cameras in the office to rob Seman Ingash, a cashier at the premises. Allegedly, Abudallah threatened Ingash at gunpoint and demanded bundles of cash amounting to 26 million shillings, 5,600 US dollars, 1200 pounds, and 800 euros, which he then stuffed into his bag before fleeing the scene without harming his victim.
Luke Owoyesigyire, Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, disclosed that the suspect handed over his firearm to a colleague named Omulen David before disappearing.
Owoyesigyire confirmed that officers have recovered the firearm used in the robbery and gathered relevant evidence from the crime scene, including a statement from the victim, Seman.
He also mentioned that the suspect chose a strategic moment to carry out the theft when the CCTV cameras were inactive, hindering access to additional evidence.
Owoyesigyire has advised business owners dealing with significant sums of money to ensure their surveillance cameras are operational at all times to aid the police in investigations.
