Security Guard Shoots Lover Dead in Wakiso

Nsangi Police in Wakiso district are delving into a case of murder by shooting at Nakitokolo cell, Kyengera town council involving a security guard and his now deceased lover.

The primary suspect, identified as Josephat Niwampeire, a security guard employed by Security Plus (U) Ltd, shot his girlfriend Ainembabazi Gift on March 21, 2024, at approximately 07:30 AM, over love turned sour.

It is alleged that Ainembabazi was involved in a romantic entanglement with Niwampeire’s older brother Ayebazibwe Felix, also employed as a guard by the same security company.

Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman, has revealed that the deceased, who was previously involved with Ayebazibwe, abruptly ended their relationship under unclear  circumstances. Subsequently, she purportedly turned her romantic attention to his younger brother, Niwampeire, professing affection for him.

Further reports suggest that her actions were motivated by a desire to incite jealousy in her former boyfriend, in hopes of reconciling with him. After Niwampeire engaged in a brief romantic relationship with Ainembabazi, she abruptly terminated the affair, saying that her affection was feigned and merely intended to provoke jealousy in his brother.

Onyango explains as fate would have it, Niwampeire, armed with a SAR rifle, left his designated post and ambushed Ainembabazi  as she was returning from dropping her children off at Westgate Primary School. Tragically, Niwampeire allegedly shot Ainembabazi in the stomach before turning the gun on himself, inflicting a wound to his lower jaw.

Police officers who visited the scene recovered three suspected cartridge casings and the SAR rifle with an empty magazine. Additionally, forensic teams collected suspected blood swabs from the crime scene, and relevant statements were gathered from eyewitnesses.

Both Niwampeire and Ainembabazi were rushed to Mulago Hospital for urgent medical attention. However, despite efforts to save her life, Ainembabazi succumbed to her injuries after a few hours in the hospital. Niwampeire, now under police guard, remains hospitalized as investigations continue.
