Security Guard Allegedly Drugs Colleagues with Sedated Bananas, Robs Offices
Ekomu, along with three unnamed colleagues, was on duty when the incident occurred.
Police in Kampala are hunting for one Daniel Ekomu, a private security guard accused of plotting with thugs to rob the Amref office headquarters in Kampala’s Central Division.
Ekomu, along with three unnamed colleagues, was on duty when the incident occurred.
It is alleged that Ekomu served his three coworkers bananas laced with chloroform, causing them to lose consciousness while he robbed and fled the scene in a stolen car. The three guards are undergoing treatment in hospital.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Spokesperson of the Kampala Metropolitan Police, says CCTV footage tracked the movement of the stolen vehicle, which was later found abandoned on the roadside in Kabalagala.
He explains that upon discovering the unconscious guards and signs of vandalism at the office premises, their supervisor, Peter Ochwo, raised the alarm and contacted the Kampala Central Police Station (CPS). The police investigation revealed that Ekomu and the perpetrators disappeared with valuable property belonging to the organization, including a firearm magazine.
He notes that police officers are hunting for Ekomu and his accomplices to recover the stolen property, estimated to be worth millions.
