Security Agencies Recover Stolen Gun, 20 Suspects Arrested
The police in Arua have recovered an AK 47 rifle and one bullet from the residence of a woman in Prison cell in Oli Division in Arua municipality.
The firearm was recovered on Monday evening in an operation prompted by incidents of armed robberies in the town.
Josephine Angucia, the West Nile Region Police spokesperson, says the recovered weapon belonged to the UPDF.
Meanwhile more than 20 suspected vagabonds from Club and Adriko Cells in Kenya Ward River in Oli division have been rounded up. The suspects were picked up in a joint security operation involving UPDF, Police and intelligence personnel that started on Monday afternoon.
Some of the suspects were found smoking marijuana and chewing Mairungi. Edward Mugweri, the West Nile Region Police Commander, says a more vigorous operation are underway in Arua town and its surrounding suburbs to get rid of wrong elements ahead of the festive season.
“We shall ensure that these wrong elements do not have any space to do wrong things again in this town so that people enjoy their festivities peacefully,” said Mugweri.
Colonel Bernard Tuhame, the 409 Brigade Commander, says they will work with police to curb any insecurity in the region. “For us its immediate response when called upon and we are always ready to respond to any call by the police and intelligence organs,” said Col. Tuhame.
Police says the suspects will appear in court for drug abuse and other charges once they are processed.
