School Heads Gather at Lugogo for Senior Five Selection Exercise
The Ministry of Education and Sports has formally commenced the process of selecting Senior Five students at the Uganda Manufacturers Association multipurpose hall in Lugogo.
This significant event has brought together school heads from both government-aided and private institutions, who have convened at Lugogo from Monday, February 26th to 27th for the selection exercise. A number of schools have raised cut-off points, which has been mostly attributed to performance.
The backdrop to this selection process is the remarkable performance recorded in the 2023 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations, where the pass rate stood at an impressive 95 percent, marking a notable increase in candidature.
According to the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB), the 2023 examination results revealed that 17.9% of candidates achieved division one, a considerable improvement compared to the 13.5% recorded in 2022, totaling 46,667 candidates.
Furthermore, there was a discernible rise in the total number of candidates sitting the exams in 2023, with 15,008 more candidates participating compared to the previous year, bringing the total number to 364,469 candidates.
During the announcement of the examination results, UNEB Executive Director Dan Odongo highlighted these statistics, showcasing the positive trends in academic performance. Additionally, the Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni, made a significant announcement stating that “A” level candidates will commence their first term on March 11, 2024.
