Rwanda Opens Border with Uganda at Katuna
The Rwanda-Uganda border at Katuna has finally opened.
This follows a statement from the Rwandan ministry of foreign affairs last week that the border would open from January 31.
The first truck to cross from Rwanda into Uganda got stuck in the middle of the road which is under construction especially in the no-man’s land.
Buses and other official vehicles were seen in the queue on the Rwandan side of Gatuna, ready to be cleared to cross over to Uganda.
Uganda officials are expected at the border to join their counterparts for a brief ceremony to mark the reopening.
The Katuna border has been closed since February 2019 and Rwanda agreed to reopen it following a meeting between the Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations and Commander Land Forces of the UPDF Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba and Rwandan President Paul Kagame in Kigali.
