Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov in Uganda Ahead of Meeting with President Museveni
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrived in Kampala on Monday for a two-day working visit in which he will meet President Yoweri Museveni.
He was received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Gen Jeje Odongo.
The presidency earlier announced the visit, noting that ” he will hold a bilateral meeting with [President Museveni] and a government delegation.”
Museveni in June had a Zoom call with the Former President of Russia and chairman of the United Russian Party Dmitry Medvedev.
” I expressed our gratitude to the Soviet Union for the support rendered in our anti-colonial endeavours in the 1960s and for facilitating our nation-building processes through trade, agriculture, industry and security,” he tweeted later.
Minister Lavrov is visiting Egypt, Ethiopia, Uganda and the Republic of Congo this week in what observers have termed as a propaganda tour aimed at polishing his country’s name following the war with Ukraine that has led to a global food and fuel crisis.
