Police in Kampala are holding a 32-year-old woman in connection with the fatal stabbing of her former boyfriend during a domestic altercation in Wakaliga Zone B, Rubaga Division.
The suspect has been identified as Nantongo Hadijjah, a resident of the area, while the deceased is Ssebugwawo Mike, a 43-year-old mechanic who also lived in Wakaliga Zone.
According to police, the incident occurred during the night of March 12, 2026, at approximately 2:00 AM.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect and the deceased had previously been in a romantic relationship but had reportedly separated about two months prior to the incident.
It is alleged that shortly before the incident, the deceased repeatedly attempted to contact Nantongo by phone but did not receive a response.
Police say that at about 1:00 AM, the deceased went to Nantongo’s residence. Upon arrival, he reportedly found the door locked while another man was inside the room.
Investigators indicate that the deceased allegedly forced his way into the room, which resulted in a confrontation between the parties.
During the altercation, Nantongo allegedly stabbed the deceased in the chest using a sharp broken clay plate, inflicting fatal injuries.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Rachael Kawala confirmed the incident, noting that the suspect is currently in custody at Natete Police Station as investigations continue.
Police have condemned the incident and called on members of the public to report cases of domestic violence to authorities.
“Police strongly condemn such acts of violence in domestic settings and continue to appeal to victims of domestic violence to report cases of abuse to the police so that appropriate action can be taken,” Kawala said.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
