Business Mogul and politician Apollo Nyagamehe aias Aponye has died following a horrible accident at along the Mbarara-Kabaale highway in Itojo, Ntungamo District.
Three others who were traveling with the deceased for burial are currently nursing life threatening injuries at the Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital. His body remains at the Itogo hospital morgue.
According SP Kasasira Samson the Rwizi Region police spokesperson, the accident happened at about 9:00 pm when Aponye’s car Land Cruiser with registration UBF 300Z, heading towards Kabale, rammed into a stationary FUSO truck registered as UAZ 767D.
He says preliminary findings reveal that the Fuso truck had parked along the road following a mechanical problem and Aponye rammed into it under unclear circumstances.
At the time of his death, Nyagamehe was the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party Chairman for Rukiga District. He was also owner of Aponye City Mall, Mega Standard Supermarket, and Aponye Mall in Ntinda among others.
