A well-known businessman residing in Ireda Estate, Lira City East Division, is in police custody for allegedly shooting his biological son dead.
The deceased Aaron Okello was killed by his father Haji Joe Ogwang during a heated altercation at Tipper stage in Kamuswahili Cell.
The confrontation reportedly erupted when Okello demanded money from his father, leading to a struggle where Okello attempted to disarm Ogwang. In the midst of the struggle, Ogwang discharged a fatal bullet, critically injuring his son.
Despite being rushed to Lira Medical Center, Okello was pronounced dead upon arrival. Ogwang, in a surprising turn of events, voluntarily surrendered to the Lira-City central police station.
Patrick Jimmy Okema, the North Kyoga Police Spokesperson, revealed that Okello was a UPDF deserter with a history of violence. Additionally, a pistol, identified as Pistol No UG IND 99702870, along with 5 rounds of ammunition, was recovered at the scene.
“The gun which was used in the incident has been secured, and investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding this tragic event,” Okema stated.
The deceased’s body currently rests at Lira Regional Referral Hospital’s mortuary pending a postmortem examination.
