Prof Nawangwe Fires Makerere PRO Rita Namisango

Makerere University Vice chancellor Prof Barnabas Nawangwe has fired Rita Namisango who has been the Public Relations Officer at the University.

Prof Nawangwe has appointed the former MUASA chairperson Muhammad Kiguddu as the new university manager of communications and interpersonal relations.

According to the letter from the human resource dated 18th, Dr Kigguddu takes over the acting role as the communications manager with immediate effect.

According to the letter, Kiguddu is supposed to be the overall leader of all the communication related matters in the university.

Namisango has been previously criticized for not enhancing the image of the University.

The communication with the bad news for Namisango

Last year, Prof Nawangwe acknowledged that the University had a poor performance in the PR department and reviews were being considered.

“We have got a PR department which is quite well staffed and of course there have been concerns about their performance, but we are going to review it,” Nawangwe said then.

According to the Makerere staff structure, the Public Relations Office, headed by the Senior Public Relations Officer (Namisango), is responsible for ensuring that the University and its activities, achievements and awards are communicated appropriately to both the internal and external publics. Among other duties, this Office is also responsible for managing University Corporate events especially those hosted by the Chancellor and Vice Chancellor.
