Private Security Guard Shoots Civilian Over 2000 Shilling Debt
Police in Kampala are hunting for a private security guard, attached to Absolute Guard Services in Kampala for opening fire on a civilian over 2000 shillings debt owed to him.
Isa Warigo, the suspect, fired four bullets at Andrew Tumwebaze a civillian and casual laborer, killing him on the spot. The incident happened on Sunday night at Kitamanya Ggaba Zone Kagugube zone, in Old Kampala, where the two reside.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson says the two got into a violent exchange after Tumwebaze failed to repay 2000 shillings that he borrowed from the security guard.
He says Warigo picked up his riffle and fired live bullets at Tumwebaze on the head and chest, killing him instantly. He later fled the scene, leaving his gun and neighbour lying dead in a cold pool of blood.
Owoyesigyire, says the gun abandoned at the crime scene has been recovered and the deceased’s body was conveyed to Mulago City Mortuary.
“We have recovered a gun, which he abandoned at the murder scene. We appeal to whoever has details that could help us arrest Warigo to secretly avail them to us,” Owoyesigyire said.
Owoyesigyire issued a stern warning, urging guards to exercise restraint and abide by the law, citing several similar cases in the Kampala Metropolitan area.
Last year, guards shot their colleagues to death in areas of Wandegeya, Konge, Port-bell Road, and Kawempe after minor disagreements mostly during the night hours.
