President Tasks Busoga MCs to Drive Wealth Creation, Socio-Economic Transformation

President Yoweri Museveni has called on Masters of Ceremonies (MCs) in Uganda’s Busoga Subregion to play a pivotal role in wealth creation and socio-economic transformation.

Speaking through Haji Faruk Kirunda, his Special Presidential Assistant on Press and Mobilization, at a gathering of MCs hosted by the Busoga Cultural and Events Speakers Association (BUSUSA) at Sikezy Hotel in Iganga, Museveni encouraged MCs to leverage their influence at events to promote government poverty alleviation initiatives.

In his remarks, Museveni stressed the importance of programs like the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga, urging MCs to educate the public on these initiatives.

“Use ceremonies to sensitise the masses on wealth creation,” he noted, adding that the prosperity of communities would, in turn, benefit the MCs, as a wealthier population is more likely to organize events that require their services.

Museveni also encouraged MCs to foster peace and unity in their messages, emphasizing that the power of their platforms could either “build or break the nation.”

He expressed disappointment with some National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders for neglecting media engagement, noting that they allow detractors to control narratives that potentially destabilize Uganda.

To support BUSUSA, which represents over 250 MCs and advocates professionalism, Museveni contributed UGX 10 million to their newly established SACCO. Iganga Woman MP Sauda Kauma Alibawo, who attended the event, commended Museveni for upholding the rights enshrined in Uganda’s 1995 Constitution, while urging Ugandans to use their freedom of speech responsibly to maintain peace.

Other notable attendees included NRM Chairperson for Iganga District Haji Abubakar Walubi, Busoga Kingdom’s Minister of Information Michael Kifubangabo, Jinja Northern Division Deputy RCC Hamis Kiganira, and Iganga Assistant RDC Blessing Mubbi.
