President Museveni Warns Military Officers Against Politics of Identity

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has cautioned the graduating military officers from the Senior Command and Staff College, Kimaka, in Jinja against engaging in the politics of identity.

The President made these remarks while responding to questions from the senior military officers at State House-Entebbe.

Addressing their concerns, which revolved around flawed ideological positions such as ethnic antagonism, regional instability, and local parochialism, President Museveni said, “I shared the NRM’s principles and how we have been able to manage growth and development.”

He urged the officers to protect their economies from the politics of identity, which undermines national unity in many African countries.

President Museveni attributed the lack of unity and instability in most African countries to the failure of national institutions, particularly the building of a strong army.

This marks the latest cohort of senior army officers, drawn from various countries around the world, to complete their one-year Senior Command Course.

The training aims to impart the necessary skills in military science and peacekeeping operations to the officers. Additionally, it is designed to enhance their analytical skills, making them relevant in the modern military environment.

The Senior Command and Staff College (SCSC) is Uganda’s premier military training institution, conducting operational-level training for mid-level military officers, both men and women, of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).
