President Museveni: Uganda to Become a Net Source of E-Mobility Solutions in Africa

President Yoweri Museveni has said that Uganda is committed to becoming a net source of e-mobility solutions in Africa. He made the announcement at the closing of the 4th Bi-annual Presidential CEO Forum retreat in Jinja.

The retreat, which was attended by business leaders from across the country, focused on the theme of “Positioning Uganda as a net source of E-Mobility Solutions in Africa.”

Museveni said that Uganda has the potential to become a major player in the e-mobility market, thanks to its abundant renewable energy resources and its skilled workforce. He also said that the government is committed to providing the necessary support to businesses that are interested in developing e-mobility solutions in Uganda.

President Museveni, addressing the gathering, emphasized the need for a robust industrial sector that fosters innovation, creates sustainable solutions, and empowers the youth to contribute ideas to shaping the nation.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the local E-Mobility industry by expressing the willingness to purchase electric buses for various government institutions, including schools and the army.

President Museveni called upon the political class and civil servants to actively support and facilitate investments in the country, enabling Uganda’s economy to grow exponentially.

He stressed that achieving the desired qualitative leap requires efforts to join the money economy, value addition, expanding and deepening the services sector, and promoting the knowledge economy through skills and innovation.

The Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Monica Musenero, said that the government is working to localize the production of e-mobility components in Uganda. She said that this will help to create jobs and reduce the cost of e-mobility solutions in the country.

“Uganda has the potential to become a major player in the e-mobility market, thanks to its abundant renewable energy resources and its skilled workforce.” she said

The CEO of Kiira Motors Corporation, Paul Musasizi, said that Kiira Motors is already producing electric buses and cars in Uganda. He said that the company is working to expand its production capacity and to export its products to other countries in Africa.

The CEO Retreat focused on six clusters critical for advancing Uganda’s industrial sector: Research & Development, Engineering and Manufacturing, Energy, Transport Planning, Management, Operations, Distribution and Support, Value Chain Financing, Policy, Regulations and Standards, and Digital Infrastructure and Industry 4.0.

The Prime Minister of Uganda, Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, visited the Kiira Vehicle Plant and had a firsthand look at Ugandan-made vehicles, including the Kayoola Coach and Kayoola EVS. She praised the efforts of the local automotive industry in contributing to the country’s development.

Several other government officials, including the Minister for Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Hon. Matia Kasaija, and the Minister for Works and Transport, Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, were also present and had the opportunity to experience the all-electric Kayoola EVS.

The 4th Bi-annual Presidential CEO Forum retreat was a major step forward in Uganda’s efforts to become a net source of e-mobility solutions in Africa. The event brought together business leaders from across the country to discuss the opportunities and challenges of the e-mobility market.

The government’s commitment to providing support to businesses that are interested in developing e-mobility solutions in Uganda is a major boost for the sector.

The 4th Bi-annual Private Sector CEO Retreat held in Jinja, Uganda, brought together key stakeholders and business leaders to deliberate on Uganda’s industrialization prospects and the promotion of E-Mobility solutions in Africa.

The event, officiated by H.E. President Kaguta Museveni, marked the launch of the Regional Private Sector Retreats and the Trade Legal Clinic Desk.
