The minister of ICT and National Guidance Judith Nabakooba has said it is only the president who will announce when the education sector will be fully re-opened.
This comes on the heels of reports by some news outlets that cited some education ministry officials saying that the sector would be re-opened in March.
Schools were closed in March of 2020 to limit the spread of the Coronavirus until the president allowed finalists to resume studies in October.
According to the minister, until the president makes a statement, parents should continue following the current arrangements for learning.
“This guidance will remain in place until His Excellency the President communicates otherwise,” she said in a Sunday statement and went on to “call upon all parents to continue making good use of the existing learning opportunities on radio and television.”
Makerere University this past Wednesday released its 2020/2021 academic year calendar, showing that first-year students would report to the institution on January 30.
But in another statement, the vice-chancellor Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe said the aforementioned date is tentative.
Uganda has so far registered 39044 cases of the coronavirus, confirmed 317 deaths, and 13861 recoveries.
