President Yoweri Museveni will on Wednesday evening deliver a national address on the state of current affairs in the country.

The Senior press secretary to the President  Linda Nabusayi made the announcement last week , saying the national address will air on national TV and radios at 8pm.

Museveni last addressed the nation during the ‘State of the nation’, in June 2022, where he  advised the public to engage in agriculture and embrace government initiatives like the Parish Development Model-PDM to alleviate poverty.

The president mentioned four sectors to be tapped into for a massive social-economic transformation including ,commercial agriculture, ICT, Industry and tourism

“ If aggressively pushed, it will cause massive social-economic transformation. I estimate that commercial agriculture alone can create 50 million jobs if you assume five million households engaged in small-scale agriculture of the Rwengaaju type and each household employing 10 people. Museveni said

This address amidst nationwide concern on food security due to increasing food prices and rising famine because of long drought, fuel crisis and increasing costs of essential commodity prices among others.

The Karamoja sub region has been in the news for record hunger and starvation  due to famine.

On Tuesday, the Minister for  Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees, Hilary Onek, flagged off 552 metric tonnes of maize flour and 238 metric tonnes of beans for distribution at the Office of Prime Minister Stores.

Besides Karamoja, Legislators in Parliament are concerned that other parts of the country also suffer effects of drought as their crops have dried prematurely.

The Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Hon Mathias Mpuuga asked the Prime Minister during plenary on Tuesday to explain to the house the strategy that the Government has to handle the country-wide food crisis that has been caused by the long drought. He has asked whether there is enough food in government silos.

On Fuel, The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development Hon . Peter Lokeris, delivered a statement in Parliament on the status of petroleum products and high cost of fuel as unrealistic.
“While prices of all products are currently high, the focus remains on sustaining supply to allow the market to continue to determine pump prices. We expect the positive effects of the above measures will be seen in the coming days,” Lokeris said last week.
The State minister for Energy, said the government would continue supplying fuel through Kenya and Tanzania and via Lake Victoria.
