President Museveni Stresses Discipline in Sports

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has emphasized the importance of discipline in sports to a group of athletes hosted for a luncheon held at State House Entebbe.

The event was organized by the President and the First Lady, who also serves as the Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Museveni.

The President encouraged athletes to avoid behaviors such as alcohol consumption, prostitution, and fighting, as they can harm their sports careers and lives. He commended the recent achievements of Ugandan sports teams in various international competitions and highlighted the value of sports for fitness, character development, and entertainment.

Museveni mentioned the challenges of developing sports in Uganda, citing past political instability and economic difficulties. He promised to provide financial support to athletes who win medals and mentioned plans to allocate a bus to each sports zone in the country.

Maama Janet Museveni praised the patriotic athletes for their achievements and called on them to work towards making Uganda the best in the world of sports. She urged the government to enhance talent identification and development and to support hosting international sports events.

The luncheon also included the recognition of athletes Joshua Cheptegei and Victor Kiplangat for their outstanding achievements.

The top five secondary schools in sports were awarded, and the Minister highlighted the progress of refurbishing the Mandela Stadium. The event was attended by various officials, including the Minister of State for Sports, Members of Parliament, and representatives from the Ministry of Education and Sports and Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association.
