President Museveni Promotes 50 UPDF Officers, Including Five New Brigadiers

President Museveni also the Commander in chief of the armed forces has promoted and confirmed Ranks of Senior and Junior officers of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).

A total of 50 UPDF officers ranging from second lieutenant to colonel ranks. Nine majors have been promoted to lieutenant colonel, alongside six acting lieutenant colonels, 17 lieutenant colonels promoted to the rank of colonel, two captains have been elevated to the rank of major, seven second lieutenants have also been promoted to the rank of lieutenant .

This aims to recognize and reward the dedication and service of military personnel.

Notable among the promotions include five colonels, namely Jimmy N. Musoke, John Patrick Otongo, James Muhwezi, Richard Rubongoya, and Wycliff Ruterana Keita, who have been elevated to the rank of brigadier, now holding the status of one-star generals. This advancement is significant in terms of the hierarchy within the UPDF.

According to the defense spokesperson, Brig Felix Kulayigye, these promotions and confirmations reflect the ongoing efforts to strengthen the leadership and structure of the UPDF, ensuring its efficiency and effectiveness in safeguarding Uganda’s security and national interests.
