President Museveni has revealed that he called in Ministry of Health experts on Sunday to test for Covid-19 after developing a sore throat and a hoarse voice.

Fortunately, the results came out negative and he managed to keep appearing in public.

Mr Museveni made the revelation on Tuesday shortly after being nominated as the national chairman and presidential flag bearer for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) at the party secretariat at Kyadondo road.

Mr Museveni who is now running unopposed for NRM Chairman and a sole candidate for the party flag ahead of 2021 elections revealed that on Sunday his team called in experts to extract a sample to test for Covid-19.

In a ceremony presided over by the NRM Commission chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi, President Museveni was duly nominated as a sole candidate for the NRM Party as no other candidate returned the forms.

According to Dr Tanga Odoi, Museveni is unchallenged for the NRM Party flag bearer after aspirant John Ssimbwa, the only competitor failed to fulfill the necessary requirements such as payment of a non-refundable fee of Shs10m.

It is not the first time that President Museveni has gone unopposed in the NRM Party Primaries. In 2015, Museveni was sole candidate following the NRM resolution that was tabled by then Northern Youth MP Evelyn Anite (now State minister for Investments).

According to the NRM Roadmap, the Central Executive Committee and National Executive Committee will between July 30 to August 5 vets presidential flag bearer, national chairperson and vice-chairpersons. Between August 7-8, the National Delegates’ conference will be held in line with Covid-19 guidelines to elect presidential flag bearer, national chairperson and vice-chairpersons.
