President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is scheduled to visit the Bunyoro Sub-Region on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, as part of his ongoing assessment of the Parish Development Model (PDM) implementation.
During this tour, President Museveni plans to engage directly with various stakeholders, including local leaders, model farmers, and beneficiaries of the PDM program. His itinerary includes visits to selected PDM beneficiaries and model farmers, meetings with different categories of leaders, media engagements, and addressing a public rally.
The PDM, launched in 2022, aims to transition 39% of Uganda’s households from subsistence to a cash economy by providing financial support and ensuring accountability at the grassroots level. Through this initiative, the government seeks to uplift approximately 3.5 million households into the money economy.
President Museveni’s assessment tours, initiated in December 2024, have covered various sub-regions, including Karamoja, Elgon, Bukedi, Bugisu, Busoga, Acholi, Lango, Ankole, Kigezi, and Teso, reflecting the government’s commitment to socio-economic transformation.
President Museveni resumed his PDM assessment tour in the Busoga Sub-Region from January 22 to 25, 2025. The itinerary included visits to farmers in Namutumba, Luuka, and Jinja districts to monitor their progress under the PDM initiative. He also commissioned the Presidential Skilling Hub, addressed a public gathering at Lwanda Primary School, met with Busoga leaders at Mayuge district headquarters, and held a live media interaction. Additionally, the President commissioned the Abyssinia Steel Factory and addressed a public rally at Kamuli Youth Centre in Kamuli municipality. The tour concluded with the commissioning of the New Tembo Steel Factory in Iganga and a mega rally with boda-boda riders at Iganga High School.
Prior to the Busoga tour, President Museveni conducted assessments in the Karamoja and Elgon regions. These tours aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the PDM in uplifting communities from subsistence farming to a cash economy. The President engaged directly with beneficiaries, local leaders, and other stakeholders to gather feedback and address challenges in the program’s implementation.
In late February 2025, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni conducted an assessment tour of the Parish Development Model (PDM) in the Ankole sub-region. The tour aimed to evaluate the implementation and impact of the PDM, a government initiative designed to transition Ugandan households from subsistence farming to a monetized economy.
During the tour, President Museveni emphasized the importance of industrialization in the region. He announced plans to establish a factory in Ntungamo District for manufacturing industrial charcoal, a critical component in steel production. This initiative is expected to create approximately 1,500 jobs and generate an annual turnover exceeding $300 million.
the President met with leaders from Ankole and Kigezi at Kyamate Secondary School in Ntungamo. These discussions focused on strategies to enhance the effectiveness of the PDM and promote socio-economic transformation in the region.
The primary goal of these assessment tours is to gather firsthand feedback from beneficiaries and ensure that the PDM is achieving its intended objectives. By interacting directly with communities, President Museveni aims to identify successes, challenges, and areas needing improvement, thereby enhancing the program’s effectiveness in transforming rural livelihoods.
