President Museveni, hails DP as both parties sign ‘cooperation agreement’

The details of the MOU remain sketchy as both parties are yet to reveal circumstances of the agreement.

President Yoweri Museveni signed a ‘cooperation agreement’ with the  Democratic Party president Norbert Mao at the State House in Entebbe.

Museveni who represented the National Resistance Movement as its Party Chairman signed the deal on behalf of his party while the Democratic Party was represented by  Mao.

The meeting was also attended by the Secretary Generals of the two political parties, Richard Todwong for NRM and Gerald Siranda for DP and their lawyers.

The details of the MOU remain sketchy as both parties are yet to reveal circumstances of the agreement.

The President however noted that his engagement with the DP is far fetched, since it was the party he first subscribed to. He says such an administrative engagement should have happened long time ago.

“I keep telling you that DP without Museveni is not a serious group because I was a very active member of the Party. I salute the DP leadership for this gesture of mature, foresighted and constructive politics” Museveni said

On his part, Mao said he is committed to honouring the agreement and ensuring he brings on board all his party members.

“This is a living document, it was signed in good faith and must continue growing” said Mao
