President Yoweri Museveni has pardoned 19 prisoners convicted of treachery and unlawful possession of ammunition under Article 121(1)(a) of the 1995 Constitution of Uganda.
The pardon, issued following advice from the Advisory Committee on the Prerogative of Mercy, was formalized through an official instrument signed by the President.
The pardoned individuals, whose offenses fell under sections of the UPDF Act and Firearms Act, include Ssegujja Rashid, Rugumayo Robert Christopher, Kakooza Muhuyadin, Kujambu Simon, Lutaya Olivia, and 14 others. The list includes individuals serving various sentences for crimes linked to national security.
The move is part of the President’s constitutional mandate to offer clemency and reflects a broader commitment to restorative justice. The Uganda Prisons Service will oversee the reintegration of the pardoned individuals into society.
