President Museveni Commends Security Forces for Apprehending ADF Suspected Leader Njovu

President Yoweri Museveni has congratulated the Ugandan security forces for their successful operations in capturing Abdul Rashid Kyoto Alais Njovu, the suspected leader of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebel group, responsible for various acts of violence and terrorism in the region.

According to the President, this achievement marks a significant step in Uganda’s ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and ensure the safety of its citizens.

In a statement released on his official social media platforms on Thursday, President Museveni explains that Njovu was apprehended following a joint operation. During the operation, Njovu sustained injuries, and three of his associates were killed.

“Njovu was injured and captured and three of his group were killed – one at Kasiindi and two in the water, aboard a boat in Lake Edward. ” he wrote

The President stated that this operation was a direct response to the ADF’s involvement in a series of violent incidents, including the killing of two tourists and their Ugandan driver, the tragic attack on Lhubiriha school children, the burning of an onions truck, and an unsuccessful attempt to target parked trucks in Kasiindi, situated on the Congo side of the border.

He further stated that Joint security forces have continued to attack rebels in Eastern Congo, where he and his group had sought refuge in the dense forests.

In addition to Njovu’s capture, the President also commended the security forces for their recent arrest of four suspects involved in the murder of Joan Kagezi, a prominent prosecutor. These actions reflect Uganda’s determination to bring those responsible for heinous crimes to justice and maintain security and order in the country.

President Museveni reiterated the government’s commitment to intensifying efforts to eradicate the ADF presence in Eastern Congo. He acknowledged the collaboration with the Congolese government in this endeavor, emphasizing that the ADF terrorists had gravely underestimated the ability of security forces to reach their hideouts in the dense forests. In response to the UPDF’s relentless operations in Eastern Congo since November 2021, the ADF has attempted to infiltrate Uganda and carry out acts of terror. However, President Museveni assured the public that Uganda would not withdraw from Congo and is actively reinforcing its presence there.

Meanwhile, within Uganda, the President assured security forces are maintaining a vigilant presence at various public events, including those with controversial elements like Nyege Nyege and the Kyabazinga wedding. The President advised citizens to remain vigilant in their daily lives, especially in villages, churches, markets, and public transportation. He emphasized that the infiltrators were few in number, and with the support of a vigilant public, they would be captured. Additionally, efforts to identify and eliminate the masterminds behind the terrorism schemes in Congo are being intensified, with a warning that those who do not surrender will face dire consequences.

The nation remains committed to ensuring peace and security for its people, and these recent developments signify a significant step towards achieving that goal.
