President Museveni calls for Vigilance Amidst Festive Season

President Museveni has called on Ugandans to maintain vigilance during the festive season and remain cautious of suspicious individuals.

“The key is ppeople being vigilant in places like churches, markets, and buses. With vigilance, we’ve thwarted many planned attacks by groups like ADF because they stand out as newcomers in an area. Even during the festive season, I urge our people to stay vigilant,” stated Museveni during his Christmas message at State House in Entebbe.

The Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) terrorist group has inflicted havoc in Uganda. In November 2021, they detonated two Improvised Explosive Devices at the Central Police Station in Kampala and along Parliamentary Avenue, resulting in casualties. A previous attack on Lubhirirha secondary school in Kasese claimed over 40 students’ lives.

The ADF also targeted Queen Elizabeth, killing two tourists and their driver. Recently, they attacked a village in Kamwenge, causing the death of 10 people.

Ugandan security has conducted operations against ADF cells, leading to numerous arrests. Meanwhile, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the UPDF and Congolese army joint operation has inflicted significant damage on ADF ranks.

Museveni emphasized that the ADF, facing intense pressure in the DRC, seeks to enter Uganda in small splinter groups to cause havoc. He urged the public to be vigilant, stating, “Our borders remain open, and intelligence is crucial. Until all threats are eliminated, vigilance is our strongest weapon.”
