President Yoweri Museveni yesterday received 22-year old Miss World Africa, Quiin Abenakyo of Uganda, who was early this month crowned Miss World Africa at the 2018 Miss World finals in China. She returned home yesterday and received a heroic welcome at Entebbe International Airport after emerging fourth in the Miss World beauty contest.
President Museveni, while receiving Abenakyo and her relatives at State House, Entebbe, commended the pageantry art industry saying it is good for the country because it promotes and exhibits African traditions, cultural norms and beauty that are linked to morals, discipline as well as the ability to build body features and appearance.
“Pageantry is good. It promotes African culture. It attracts young people using visual aid and acts as a role model to help young children not to live loose life. This is the way to go to shape a bright future,” he said in a statement sent by his press unit.
The President congratulated Abenakyo upon the achievement and self-respect. He also commended her parents for nurturing their daughter well. He encouraged Abenakyo to pursue further studies beyond a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Computing that she holds.
The Minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu observed that nothing can stop Uganda from being the largest tourism attraction centre in the world. He thanked the President for promoting the tourism industry and for imparting educative and parental guidance to the youth.
