President Challenges Leaders on Promoting Commercial Agriculture
President Yoweri Museveni has urged local leaders in Tororo District to guide wananchi to discard subsistence farming in favour of commercial agriculture so that people are economically empowered to support their families, churches and Government through the payment of taxes.
The President was speaking at a fundraising drive to complete All Saints’ Church in Asinge village, Tororo District. The President contributed Shs.100 million out of Shs.1.4 billion that the project requires for completion. The function was preceded by a Church service led by Bukedi Diocesan bishop, Rt. Rev. George Samuel Bwogere Egesa.
Mr. Museveni called wananchi to exploit their God-given talents to the maximum in order to create wealth for their families and their country at large. He advised all the people in Uganda wake up and utilize maximally the two rainy seasons the country has in order to reap riches from improved production undertakings in poultry, forestry, fish farming and zero grazing of dairy cows.
“God gave you the land, hands and the brain. Are you using them well? These selected income generating projects can be a good source of income for families and also support the church,” he said.
President Museveni used the occasion, that was attended by Teso cultural leader, Osuban Augustine, area MPs and Teso community from neighbouring Kenya, to launch Tororo South Multi-purpose Cooperative Society Limited and also handed over a donation of a Tata Bus registration No. UBG 564 A that he had pledged to Asinge Secondary School.
State Minister for Health (General) Hon. Achieng Sarah Opendi said the community had mobilized over Shs.30 million to the church project
Area MP, Hon. Frederick Angura thanked the President for his support of the infrastructure and general development in the area. He said that the donation of a bus to Asinge Secondary School is a treasure.
NRM supporters in Tororo County endorsed President Museveni as their sole presidential candidate in the 2021 general elections.
