President Approves Construction of Airport in Kidepo Valley National Park

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has approved the construction of an airport in Kidepo Valley National Park in the Karamoja sub-region.

The decision was made during a meeting with a delegation from the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, led by its Chairperson, Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, at State House Entebbe. The delegation updated the President on the airport’s progress, and he gave his approval while emphasizing the need to protect the park’s wildlife.

President Museveni also offered tax exemptions to the investors involved in the project and pledged to encourage the Uganda Hotel Owners Association to build hotels in the area to accommodate airport passengers. The airport is planned to have a 3,500-meter runway capable of handling large aircraft like the Boeing B777.

The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce & Industry, based in the United Arab Emirates, was established in 1970 to contribute to the economic development of Sharjah.

The meeting included the attendance of the Attorney General, Kiryowa Kiwanuka, the Minister of State for Works and Transport, Fred Byamukama, and the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Okello Oryem.
