Many people are expressing their condolences and good wishes to the friends and family of singer Evelyn Love,41, formerly known as Evelyn Lagu, who passed away in the early hours of Monday morning.

Evelyn had been struggling with heart and kidney problems for some time. She sadly passed away on Monday, August 18, 2023, after a long battle with these health issues. She had been undergoing dialysis treatment as her health deteriorated, and she couldn’t have an operation in Turkey recently due to her worsening condition.

After her passing, several artists and politicians paid their respects to her. Mityana Municipality Member of Parliament, Francis Zaake, shared his sympathies with Love’s family on his social media channels. He also praised her for her brave fight against kidney complications.

“After a lengthy battle with kidney complications, it is very absurd that the Lord has taken our beloved artist Evelyn LAGU to rest with the angels. My thoughts and prayers are with her family, relatives, and the fanbase,” Zaake stated

Speaker of Parliament Anita Among also expressed her condolences on Twitter, acknowledging Evelyn’s talent as a singer and actress and extending her sympathies to the family, friends, and the entire entertainment industry.

“The country has woken up to the devastating news of the passing of Evelyn Nakabira, alias Evelyn Lagu, who was a singer and actress. I wish to extend my deepest sympathies to the family, relatives, friends and the entire entertainment industry during this difficult time. May her soul rest in peace.” she wrote

Eddie Kenzo, a fellow artist, was deeply saddened by her death and shared a picture taken with her just days before.

“I can’t believe you’re gone dear Evelyn Lagu. You have fought a big battle my sister may your soul rest in peace,” Kenzo

Nubian Li mentioned that Evelyn had fought bravely for her life and wished her eternal peace.

Lydia Jazmine, another artist, expressed her sadness at Evelyn’s passing and commended her for her courageous battle against her illnesses, saying that she should now rest peacefully with the angels.

Evelyn Lagu was a multi-talented artist, known for her skills as both a singer and a movie actress. She was born as Evelyn Nakabira in Kalungu, Masaka, on June 1, 1982. Unfortunately, she faced the loss of both her parents during her childhood, and she never had the opportunity to meet her father. At a young age, she was sent to live with her aunt in Mityana, who worked as a midwife, along with her late husband, George William Lubega.

Evelyn’s educational journey took her through several schools, including Aga Khan, Mityana SS, Pride SS Mityana, and ultimately, St. Peter’s SS Busubizi, where she completed her A’levels in 1999.

In the local entertainment scene, Evelyn Lagu is widely recognized as one of the most exceptional singers and actresses. She has showcased her musical talents by performing with bands like Mustard and Flash, and she has also contributed her vocals as a backup singer for prominent artists such as the late Carol Nakimera, Halima Namakula, Ragga Dee, Makoma, and, more recently, Mampi from Zambia.
