Police to Resume Crackdown on Unlicensed Boda Boda Motorists
The Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety has revealed that they will resume operations against unlicensed boda boda riders countrywide.
The traffic directorate’s spokesperson Michael Kananura told journalists at the police head offices in Kampala that an operation to check for licenses for boda boda riders will resume next week.
“Effective next week on Monday, we shall carry out massive operations targeting all motorists on roads without license. Culprits will be arrested, their machines impounded and they will face courts of law. They will be tasked to first obtain driving permits before getting back their motorcycles.” he said
Kananura further explains that the crackdown will extend to drunken riders and those under the intoxication of narcortic substances.
“They must also not drink and ride, this not only applies to alcohol but also other drugs and substances . Then there those who fail to observe traffic signs and rules, ” he said
According to the latest traffic report, 222 boda boda motorcycle accidents occurred during the week of 16th – 23rd July, 2023. Of these, 57 were fatal.
