Police To Inspect Vehicle That Rammed Into Lukwago’s House

Police in Kampala have revealed that the vehicle that crushed into the residence of the Lord Mayor of Kampala, Erias Lukwago will be inspected before charges are slapped on the driver.

The police commenced investigations on Sunday, moments after one Farid Kiwewa smashed the Lord Mayor’s gate in Rubaga Division before ramming into one of the pillars inside his compound.

Kiwewa who was driving a Subaru number-plate UAJ 704 K was arrested and is currently in police custody at old Kampala as investigations into the matter take shape.

According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson the suspect claims his car brakes failed to function, causing him to ram into the Lord Mayor’s gate.

He says another occupant of the same car is admitted at Mulago Hospital after sustaining injuries.

He explains that upon interrogation, Kiwewa stated that he was driving at a terrible speed when he lost control of the car, after noticing another vehicle fast approaching him on the opposite direction of the narrow road.

He states that Kiwewa decided to knock the gate to avoid direct confrontation with his car, hence the accident.

He crashed into the gate and hit a pillar at the house causing fear at the occupants of Lukwago’s house.

Owoyesigyire says another occupant of the same car sustained injuries and is currently admitted at Mulago Hospital.

He adds that police have since towed the vehicle to police headquarters in Naguru, Kampala, for inspection at the IOU before they proceed with charges.

Owoyesigyire explains that the IOU report will determine whether Kiwewa intentionally rammed into the car or it was an accident as he claims as a traffic or a criminal matter.

The Lord mayor Lukwago however says he suspects the driver had ulterior motives.

” He was either high on something or had other intentions but considering the impact, I suspect something sinister. Lukwago told journalists on Sunday
