Police Shootout Claims Life of Kisenyi Gang Leader

Police have revealed the circumstances surrounding the death of Dog Kanyanya, a suspected gang leader of a notorious group known for terrorizing locals in Kisenyi.

Kanyanya sustained fatal bullet wounds during a confrontation with police officers while attempting a robbery last Friday at School View Zone of Kisenyi II Parish in Kampala Central.

Reports from police indicate that Kanyanya and his gang of 12 other thugs ambushed pedestrians at 9 am, armed with knives and iron bars, and proceeded to snatch bags, wallets, money, watches, mobile phones, and other valuables.

Deputy police spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Luke Owoyesigyire explained that upon receiving a report of the incident, police responded swiftly. They fired five warning shots to deter the gang, but Kanyanya escalated the situation by brandishing a knife in an attempt to attack a police officer. In response, another officer shot him in the legs.

“He was shot trying to fight our officers. The group was armed with knives and iron bars,” Owoyesigyire said.

Despite efforts to save him, Kanyanya succumbed to his injuries. Owoyesigyire says that Kanyanya was shot because he resisted arrest and posed a threat to the officers.

Owoyesigyire assured the public that efforts to apprehend the remaining members of the gang are ongoing, with the aim of curbing the recent surge in crime incidents reported in the area.
