The Jinja-based female weightlifter, Prossy Nyanga was killed in a revenge attack, the Kiira Region Police has revealed.

Nyanga, 33, was stabbed to death on Saturday evening minutes after stepping out of her cosmetics shop in  Budhumbuli cell in Bugembe ward in Jinja city. She was buried in Bukanga sub-county in Luuka district on Monday evening.

Police picked up several suspects including Hudson Byansi alias Abdul Mulawa, Alex Kato, Lazarus Wakabi, Sowedi Wavamuno, Amin Waibi alias Willy and John Okedi in connection to the attack.

According to the police, the suspects have been planning to kill the deceased after serving their six months sentence in Bugembe prisons following their conviction for stealing her smartphone and other valuables.

Police say that the suspects, who are locked up at Jinja central police station have confessed to having trailed Nyanga for the past three months before executing their mission.

The suspects reportedly told detectives that they were arrested and sentenced unfairly since the investigators didn’t find any exhibit pinning them on the alleged theft. However, Byansi, who is the prime suspect in the murder, says Nyanga’s death was an accident because their main target was to assault her and steal her valuables.

The Kiira Region police spokesperson, James Mubi, says that after completing their sentence, the suspect together with others at large started issuing death threats against the deceased for causing their arrest and imprisonment.
