Police have released Closed Circuit Television – CCTV footage of that captured men believed to have kidnapped and killed Maria Nagirinya, a social worker with Community Integrated Development Initiative – CIDI and her driver, Ronald Kitayimbwa.

The duo was kidnapped on August 28th, 2019 outside Nagirinya’s gate in Lungujja in Rubaga Division in Kampala around 11 pm.  The lifeless bodies were found dumped in a swamp in Nama Sub County in Mukono District three days after.

The Deputy Police spokesperson, Polly Namaye, released the CCTV footage on Wednesday afternoon showing Nagirinya’s car UBA 570V being chauffeured by the kidnappers.

“The images have been retrieved from an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera and one can clearly see from these pictures that the assailant is wearing a white shirt, a reddish coat and a cap on his head. He is of a dark skin complexion,” Namaye said while releasing the footage.

Adding that, “This is, therefore, to appeal to members of the public and to any other person(s) who have useful information leading to the arrest of this suspect in the pictures to contact the nearest police station or call the telephone numbers provided,” Namaye said.

How it happened

On the fateful day, Nagirinya had earlier been awarded a certificate alongside 65 other workers after completing a three-day workshop. She reportedly spent more than three hours at her friend’s home, Sylvia Nakayenga alias Mama Vianney in Nsambya.

They later drove home with Kitayimbwa and were kidnapped while trying to drive through the main gate in the presence of Nagirinya’s sister, a one Benna who had opened the gate. Police detectives interrogated her husband to understand whether she had previously complained about any death threats.

Aged 28, Nagirinya had spent a year in her marriage and was a daughter to renowned businessman Francis Lubowa in Nsambya. Lubowa is also a brother to the former Buganda Kingdom Minister Dr. Ben Mukwaya, the proprietor of Mukwaya General Hospital along Ggaba Road.
