Police Recover SMG Rifle Gun From Suspected Thugs
Police in Masindi have recovered a firearm believed to have been used for terrorizing residents in the area.
The recovered weapon is identified as an SMG rifle with registration number UGPSO 564210771, and it was found in Kayom village in Miirya sub-county on Tuesday night.
It all started when three suspected robbers attacked the village around 11:30 pm with the intention of robbing residents. However, alert villagers became suspicious of the intruders and sounded an alarm, prompting the criminals to flee. In the pursuit that followed, one of the suspects dropped the firearm, leading to its discovery by the residents.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, commended the residents for their vigilance and emphasized the importance of public awareness in identifying potential threats. The search for the suspects involved in the attempted robbery is ongoing.
This incident is not an isolated case in the Albertine region, as previous instances of recovered firearms have been reported. In May 2023, police in Hoima recovered an AK47 rifle belonging to the Uganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF) during a foiled robbery attempt at a mobile money agent’s location in Hoima City.
