Police in Mubende have rescued a 3-month-old baby boy and arrested four suspects over the alleged kidnapped of the minor for ritual purposes.

The minor(names withheld) went missing from his residence in Kikona Cell, Kirungi Ward, South Division in Mubende Municipality, Mubende District on July 23, 2023. It is alleged that the mother of the minor identified as Nakityo Rose left her baby home alone at about 10:30 am and went to a nearby stream to fetch water, however when she returned the child was missing.

SP Kawala Racheal the police spokesperson for Wamala Region says Nakityo immediately inquired from the father of the child Magezi Aaron if he had picked the couple’s child in her absence but he denied it.

The couple launched a hunt for the baby in vain and later reported the matter to police. The police discovered the baby the abandoned in the bush approximately 200 meters from Nakatogo Vadesi’s shrine.

“Valuable information from children playing nearby led us to a person seen carrying a child while wearing a cap. Following this lead, our officers traced the same route and discovered the abandoned child in the bushes near Nakatogo Vadesi’s shrine, approximately 200 meters away.

She says police has apprehended four suspects to assist in the case, and efforts are underway to  identify and apprehend any additional suspects continue. She has cautioned parents to avoid leaving children alone.

“We strongly denounce this act of kidnapping and urge parents and guardians to be vigilant, refraining from leaving their children unattended. The safety and protection of our children are of utmost importance. A case of child kidnapping has been opened, and we assure the public that our inquiries are still underway to ensure justice is served. ” she adds
