Police in Kampala have foiled a suspected aggravated robbery targeting a mobile money operator in Bugolobi.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Luke Owoyesigyire, the suspect had concealed a firearm inside a polythene bag during the attempted robbery.
Owoyesigyire said the suspect fled on a motorcycle after the robbery attempt failed.
“Boda boda riders pursued the suspect and alerted police patrol teams along Old Port Bell Road,” he explained.
Police officers responded quickly to the alert and began pursuing the suspect.
However, upon noticing the approaching police officers, the suspect abandoned the firearm and escaped from the scene.
Police later recovered the gun near the Ministry of Internal Affairs premises.
The firearm was found loaded with four rounds of ammunition and has since been secured as an exhibit.
A scene of crime team visited the area to examine the scene and document evidence.
Police say investigations are ongoing to identify the suspects involved and the motorcycle used in the attempted robbery.
